Project Summary

The 5-year USAID funded Integrated Maternal, Newborn, Child Health and Family Planning (MNCH-FP) program in Zimbabwe’s goal is to improve maternal, youth and child health and survival in beneficiary communities and populations. The geographic focus is the seven districts of Manicaland Province, focusing on activities to increase the demand and supply of integrated, quality MNCH-FP services as well delivery of family planning services through outreach in 8 provinces. This project provides Technical Assistance (TA) to the MOHCC in Manicaland for MNCH and direct service delivery for Family Planning through outreach services.

Position Summary

The Communications internship is a 6-months internship program. This role requires an energetic, dedicated and detail-oriented person who can manage multiple tasks. The Intern will assist with communications, advocacy and SBCC tasks including, but not limited to: writing and editing, photo and video production and editing, graphic design, media relations, other communications and administrative support tasks as assigned. On a weekly basis, the intern will work with project staff to collect and report on activities in the form of success stories for filing and onward reporting to USAID. The intern will work with the ACSM Advisor to prepare scripts and schedules for radio talk shows. They will also rotate under technical departments for an all-round appreciation of the project.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Intern will work under the direct supervision of the Advocacy Communications and Social Mobilization Advisor to perform the following key roles:
• Support strategic communications planning and processes that contribute to the project’s visibility.
• Monitor and analyze local conversations around priority and emerging MNCH/FP issues and identify opportunities for FHI 360 to engage in these conversations.
• Produce and support the production of communication products and materials like infographics, videos, etc, bulletins and success stories.
• Contribute to visual and digital communications, including photo gathering and editing, graphic creation and presentation, and other multi-media editing, including video and audio.
• Help to design and prepare information & advocacy materials and publications.
• Supporting the development of project profiles and stories.
• Ensure project branding standards are applied consistently across all communication platforms.
• Support Technical staff in day to day work as required

Qualifications and Experience

Knowledge, skills and abilities
• Knowledge of creative tools, such as photo editing suites is an advantage.
• Efficient user of Microsoft Office tools (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.).
• Experience with TV/video production, including scriptwriting and/or camera work is an advantage.
Required Qualifications and Requirements:
• The ideal candidate is a recent undergraduate (within the past year) or an undergraduate student (attachment year) in health education and promotion, media, communications, public relations or a development-related field.
• Language requirements: English, Shona, Ndebele, Ndau or other local indigenous languages.
