Job Description

We are seeking qualified and experienced Artisan- Mechanical to join our team. Reporting to Plant Engineer, the successful applicants will, among other key duties, be responsible for:

Duties and Responsibilities

• Carry out scheduled inspections, cleaning, lubrication, and adjustments as per supplier recommendations to prevent equipment failure.
• Diagnose mechanical faults, troubleshoot issues (e.g., in pumps, conveyors, gearboxes), and perform emergency repairs to restore production.
• Install and commission new mechanical equipment, including setting up automated machinery and production lines.
• Fabricate or modify machine parts using tools such as lathes, grinders, drill presses, and basic welding.
• Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental (SHE) regulations, including lockout/tagout procedures and risk assessments.
• Assist in maintaining an inventory of critical spares and determining reorder points for essential components.
• Train and supervise apprentices and artisan assistants to ensure quality standards and skills development.

Qualifications and Experience

• A Class 1 Certificate in Fitting and Turning or related trade.
• At least 3 years of experience in a production, mining, or industrial environment.
• Proficiency in hydraulics, pneumatics, and precision fitting.
• Valid Trade Certificate (e.g., Apprenticeship).
• Basic computer skills (MS Office), and ability to use maintenance systems.

Attributes
• Expertise in hydraulics, pneumatics, rotating equipment (pumps, blowers, compressors), and shaft alignment.
• Strong troubleshooting and fault-finding skills to identify the root cause of mechanical issues.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manufacturer manuals.
• Skilled in using hand-held power tools, precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers), and heavy machinery.
• Effective written and verbal skills for reporting progress, documenting repairs, and collaborating with team members.
