Job Description

Mercy Corps Zimbabwe under the CEDIS (Catalyzing Economic Development through the Informal Sector) program, invites suitably qualified and experienced consulting firms to submit proposals for the development of a Solid Waste Management Master Plan for a partner local authority in Zimbabwe. The assignment aims to provide a strategic framework to guide short-, medium-, and long-term solid waste management interventions and support the partner city’s vision of becoming one of the cleanest cities in the region. CEDIS aims to improve incomes, working conditions and resilience to shocks and stresses of 30,000 vulnerable young women (70% of whom aged 18-35) in the urban and surrounding rural areas , through sustainable informal and micro-enterprise livelihoods. CEDIS has three main outcomes: (1) Female employees and female suppliers earn more through increased quantity of work or increased rates of pay, (2) Women led enterprises experience improved business performance, and (3) Young women and women led enterprises experience an improved business environment.

Who may apply:

Interested firms should demonstrate:

• Proven experience in developing solid waste management master plans or similar strategic plans, preferably for entities in Southern Africa.
• A multidisciplinary team with relevant experience covering solid waste management, environmental science, engineering, financial modelling, socio-economic studies, and stakeholder facilitation.
• Strong knowledge of circular economy principles, climate co-benefits in waste, and the informal waste sector.
• Experience working with local authorities in developing countries (experience in Sub-Southern Africa will be an added advantage).
