Brief about the organization: An international human rights organisation with a local office in Zimbabwe is looking for a dynamic individual with a strong track record in journalism, media and communications to support the organisation in the Communications and Membership Department.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities
• Develops and delivers an effective media relations and engagement strategy which includes pitching the organisation’s work, organizing interviews, providing media briefings, writing op eds and responding to media requests.
• Develops and delivers media strategies for the organisation’s campaigns.
• Research, scripts, designs, produces, and manages high-quality interactive print,
audio and audio-visual digital online content for organisational emails, artwork and
other materials.
• Develops digital campaigns content work in collaboration with the local and regional
team.
• Manages the organisation’s social media accounts and engages with diverse audiences
across key social media sites (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Tiktok, Youtube,
Instagram)
• Develops, implements, and manages the organisation’s social media calendar.
• Track and assess social media metrics, insights, and best practices to help the
organisation improve reach and engagement with key audiences.
• Develops and implements the organisation’s Membership Recruitment and Retention
Strategy.
• Recruits, retains and engages members to support the organisation’s programme
strategies.

• Excellent communication skills (Oral and written)
• Confident communicator and presenter
• Excellent planning and organisational skills
• Excellent project management and time management skills.
• Exceptionally good technical affinity for media contexts including knowledge of a
wide range of multimedia, web, and digital tools.
• Outstanding newswriting and editing skills.
• Proficiency in design and publishing software.
• Social media and multimedia skills.
• Advanced understanding of the country media and communications environment.
• Ability to produce effective quick and reactive news lines for breaking stories.
• Ability to collaborate with diverse teams locally and regionally.
• Ability to develop membership recruitment, engagement and retention strategies.
• Excellent public relations skills and ability to engage diverse groups.
• Excellent marketing skills.

• Ability to represent the organisation in a variety of forums, particularly with civil society and the membership
• Demonstrated commitment to human rights, eg through previous work.
• Understanding of equal opportunities, cultural diversity, and gender issues as well
as a commitment to apply relevant policies.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications and experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, or related field.
• Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, or related field.
• 5 years’ experience working as a Communications focal point person in the NGO
sector at senior management level.
• Marketing and Public Relations qualification is an added advantage
• Experience in recruiting both individual and organisational members for a
membership- based organisation.
