Background
Communication is an important strategic tool for any organisation as it helps to sustain influence, gain visibility and promote good causes. A faith-based organisation with its audience that includes its member churches, the Board, the Supervisory Council, Chapter 12 Institutions, other key stakeholders, local and international partners, and the public at large. To enhance organisational visibility, our organisation wishes to develop a Communications Strategy centred on digital inclusion and to strategically position its studio. This will raise the profile and impact of the organisation’s work through a variety of means that reflect its core Christian and ecumenical values while improving organisational sustainability.
Given the above, we seek the services of a Business Development and Communications Consultant to support the development of the Communications Strategy, Business model and the training of our communications staff for effective delivery of their strategic objectives. The consultant will be engaged to come to the organization once a week to drive business development and training of our team for the next 3 months. Specific roles and responsibilities for the consultant are as outlined below.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Independent Consultant is expected to:
Work with communications team and develop a Business Plan/Model for our Studio through a consultative process with management and staff; Support the registration of the studio in line with the legal provisions guiding the operations of the studios; Take lead in the development of a Communications/Marketing strategy of the organisation; Conduct trainings for the Communications and other staff on the Communications Business Model; Design or adapt the necessary systems of the organisation in line with the established business model; Highlight potential business opportunities/partnerships for the studio, produce a Quarterly newsletter, magazine and capacitate the Communications team in production of an annual report; Increase studio content production and devise mechanisms to improve interactions, reach and influence of the social media platforms; Develop tools for regular market assessment and research. Tools that can be easily completed or coordinated by our interested parties; Help establish the Knowledge Management System through a Consultative process and engagement of the our leadership, staff and networks; Develop and capacitate staff on the recruitment and management of consultants and interns as part of the Business Development model; Capacitate the team to produce short video clips, animations and other tools for effective communication; Conduct trainings for the organisation on effective communication, organising and use of digital tools in communication.

Specific deliverables
Studio Business Model; Communications Strategy; Video Clips, Animations and other tools for dissemination of our work; Increased influence and reach of social media tools; Weekly trainings for the staff; Tools for regular market assessment.

Qualifications and Experience

Skills, knowledge and experience
Master’s degree and background in journalism/or communication /or marketing or related fields and the ability to work with a diverse range of people; A minimum of 5 years’ experience with a proven professional record working in the field of communication and content production; Excellent spoken and written English, with a working knowledge of the other Zimbabwean languages; Ability to see news worthy stories, produce content, media marketing, and fast, accurate, creative and versatile writing skills, including for digital media.
