Role Summary
The Credit & Risk Officer will be responsible for maintaining portfolio quality, conducting credit assessments, monitoring risk exposure, ensuring compliance with lending policies, and supporting effective recovery and risk mitigation strategies across the institution.
Key Responsibilities
• Assess and analyse loan applications in line with company lending policies and procedures.
• Conduct creditworthiness assessments and affordability analysis for clients.
• Verify KYC documentation and ensure compliance with AML/CFT regulations.
• Monitor adherence to approved credit policies, lending limits, and product guidelines.
• Track portfolio performance, arrears trends, delinquency levels, and non-performing loans.
• Prepare loan portfolio quality and risk exposure reports for management.
• Review and recommend loan approvals, restructures, or declines based on risk analysis.
• Monitor collateral documentation, valuations, and security perfection processes.
• Conduct periodic branch credit audits and operational compliance reviews.
• Coordinate debt recovery initiatives with collections teams, debt collectors, and legal service providers.
• Monitor loan loss provisions and support IFRS 9 provisioning processes.
• Investigate fraudulent activities, irregularities, and policy breaches.
• Maintain and review credit risk registers and operational risk reports.
• Conduct portfolio stress testing and risk trend analysis.
• Assist in reviewing and updating credit policies, procedures, and operational controls.
• Facilitate staff training on credit procedures, compliance, and risk management.
• Ensure compliance with RBZ regulations and internal governance requirements.
• Participate in branch visits and loan verification exercises.
• Degree in Finance, Banking, Accounting, Risk Management, Economics, or related field.
• Professional qualification in Risk Management, Credit Management, ACCA, CIMA, CIS, or equivalent will be an added advantage.
• Minimum of 3–5 years’ relevant experience within financial services or microfinance.
• Strong understanding of lending operations, portfolio management, and credit risk analysis.
• Knowledge of RBZ regulations, AML/CFT standards, and IFRS 9 principles.
• Proficiency in Loan Management Systems and Microsoft Office applications.
