About us

The Organization of Rural Associations for Progress (ORAP) is an indigenous, culturally rooted movement for development. It was founded in 1980 and registered in 1981 as a charitable organisation dedicated to promoting rural development from the perspective of grassroots communities in Zimbabwe. We’re seeking an experienced Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP) to lead the Amalima Loko project, a USAID-funded initiative that is in its fifth year, to be completed in June 2027.

Project Summary:

The project aims to enhance food security in Zimbabwe through sustainable watershed management and increased food access. Its purposes are P1: Enhanced and inclusive local ownership over food security and resilience planning and development; P2: Watershed management improved, P3: Adaptive and absorptive capacity improved. Active since 2020, the Amalima Loko project is implemented by a consortium led by CNFA, comprising three national and three international partners; the project operates from its main office in Bulawayo and satellite offices in Lupane, Nkayi, Binga, and Hwange.

Position Summary

The Deputy Chief of the Party (DCOP) works closely with and report to the Chief of Party (COP) to provide effective and efficient technical oversight of the Amalima Loko project. The Deputy Chief of Party supports the Chief of Party in managing the three purposes of the project, while ensuring integration and alignment with ORAP’s Mission and Strategic Plan. Specific duties include:

Duties and Responsibilities

ORAP’s Representative to Amalima Loko

The DCOP is the senior representative of ORAP in the Amalima Loko project and holds dual senior leadership roles in both. The incumbent provides guidance to ORAP on its role in the project, including integration with ORAP’s other projects and relationships. The DCOP reports to both the ORAP CEO and Amalima Loko COP.

Program/Project Planning

The DCOP functions as senior Team Leader of the Zimbabwe Amalima Loko staff, providing strategic vision for the attainment of the project’s food security and nutritional objectives; Manages weekly, monthly, and annual project plans; Oversees project reporting, project data collection, analysis, learning, as well as monthly, quarterly and annual activity reporting; Collaborates with the Chief of Party and the project team to manage relationships with project stakeholders and partners that include consortium members, government departments, USAID and other donors, and community members; Facilitates forwarding of success stories to USAID.

Partner Support and Coordination

Advises and assists the partner organisations with attaining the set project goals; Organises regular partner meetings and coordinates visits by external partners; Shares information and experiences with external partners which include non –governmental organisations, government departments, and donors; Encourages networking and exchange of experience among partner organisations and stakeholders; Strengthens the capacities of Zimbabwe Amalima Loko Project team and fosters an environment of teamwork, transparency, efficiency, and effectiveness.

Financial Oversight

Oversees implementation and monitoring of the Amalima Loko budget; Approves financial expenditure for the Amalima Loko budget within ORAP; Controls and verifies the accounts for Amalima Loko Project at ORAP; Collaborates with the COP and senior staff of consortium members to track project expenditures and grant performance.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications and Experience:

Master’s Degree or higher in Agricultural Production, Agricultural Science, International Development, Business Management or a related field is required; At least 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in managing and implementing large donor-funded agricultural programs, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa; Experience with agricultural development programs implementing agribusiness and /or value chain development activities; Knowledge and experience in innovations related to climate change adaptation and mitigation, and resilience building in rural communities; Demonstrated experience with host government planning and evaluating agriculture development activities at the national and sub-national level; Experience working with a range of stakeholders, from high-level government officials to smallholder farmers is required; Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to motivate staff to be accountable for program outcomes; Experience in mentoring and building capacity of staff; Fluency in English is required, and proficiency in a local Zimbabwean language spoken in the Amalima Loko project areas is preferred.
