WORKS & ESTATES DEPARTMENT

Duties and Responsibilities

Physical planning, production of engineering designs and physical development of the University.
Developing and maintaining the University’s estate to the highest possible standards.
Providing high quality, customer-focused facilities and services.
Advising the Vice-Chancellor on the strategic development of the estate in order to support the University in meeting its primary objectives.
Ensuring improvements to the University’s physical environment.
Assumes responsibility for managing multiple sections, work groups, and/or service of the Works and Estates Department including building maintenance and maintenance functions of the University’s infrastructure at City Campuses.
Participating in the development and implementations of goals, objectives, polices, and priority for assigned service areas, programs, and operations.
Recommending and administering university policies and procedures.
Reviewing and evaluating work products, methods, and procedures.
Identifying operational challenges and formulating appropriate solutions.
 Any other duties as may be assigned by the Director of Works and Estates.
Staff management

Planning, directing, coordinating, and reviewing the work plans for assigned staff.
Assigning work activities, projects, and programs.
Motivating, disciplining and evaluating staff performance against set goals and objectives.
Identifying training needs and assisting in staff training.
Ordering protective clothing, equipment and uniforms for staff as required by the policy.
Handling grievances and providing leadership to staff in the department.
Maintaining conducive working environment.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must have a Master’s Degree in either Structural/Civil Engineering, Architecture, Quantity Surveying, Construction Project Management or any other degree in the Construction Industry from a recognized Institution.
Must have at least 5 years post qualification experience, with 4 years being at supervisory level. Professional membership to the relevant industrial bodies is an added advantage. Experience in a University environment is also an added advantage.
