POSITION : FITTER AND TURNER
GRADE: 5
REPORTING TO : CIVIL ENGINEER WATER AND WASTEWATER
LOCATION: : ENGINEERING DEPOT
DURATION : 12 MONTH CONTRACT
JOB PURPOSE
Responsible for repairs and maintenance of all mechanical plants and machinery, pumps including boreholes and fountains), valves, boilers, gearboxes, blowers, fans, plant and equipment, conveyors, and water treatment plants, ensuring optimum mean time between failures.
Duties and Responsibilities
KEY RESULT AREAS
• Disassembles and (re)assembles equipment and machinery.
• Installs plant and equipment.
• Repairs equipment and machinery.
• Machines, fabricates, and welds machinery and equipment to specified fits and tolerances.
• Ensure a safe working environment and practices in line with the Factories and Work Act
• Ensure proper housekeeping.
• Perform administrative duties - compile weekly and monthly reports and submit them to the director of engineering services; initiate purchase requisitions and assist in preparing the council's annual budget.
• Supervises and assigns tasks to
subordinates, including student attaches.
Qualifications and Experience
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• Apprenticeship- trained in Fitting and Turning with 3 years of post-qualification experience
OR Trade- tested Skilled Worker Class 1 in Fitting and Turning with 5 years of post-qualification experience.
• National craft certificate in Fitting and Turning
• Trade-tested Skilled Worker Class 1 in Fitting and Turning
• 5 “O”-Levels including English, Maths, and Science
• Clean and valid Class 4 OR 2 driver's licence.
• Must be 35 years old or below.

• Able to work with minimum supervision
