Position Summary
The Genomics Scientist will be responsible for designing, implementing, and analyzing genomic studies to advance biomedical research at the institute. The role focuses on applying next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies and genomic array platforms to investigate genetic variation, gene expression, and other genomic phenomena in relation to health and disease. The scientist will play a key role in integrating genomic data with other data types to generate biological insights.

Duties and Responsibilities

Key Duties & Responsibilities
a) Design and execute genomic studies, including whole genome, exome, transcriptome, targeted sequencing, and genotyping array projects.
b) Process and analyze high-throughput genomic data using bioinformatic pipelines and statistical methods.
c) Perform genotyping and analysis using SNP Open Array and similar platforms, including sample processing, quality control, and data interpretation.
d) Interpret genomic findings and prepare comprehensive reports, visualizations, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
e) Develop, validate, and optimize new genomic and bioinformatic methodologies.
f) Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot NGS instrumentation and genotyping array systems.
g) Ensure data integrity, quality control, and compliance with relevant ethical and data governance standards.
h) Collaborate with bioinformaticians, biostatisticians, and wet-lab scientists on multidisciplinary projects.
i) Contribute to grant writing and scientific publications.
j) Train and mentor apprentices, graduate students, and junior staff in genomic techniques and data analysis.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications and Experience
a) MSc or PhD in Genomics, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, or a related field. Experience with setting up PCR, PCR-RFLP and RT-PCR methods on various platforms is a requirement for this position.
b) Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in genomics, including practical experience with NGS library preparation and sequencing. Experience with Sanger sequencing and NGS sequencing on platforms such as Illumina or Thermofisher is a requirement for this position with expertise in targeted gene sequencing, WES and WGS a strong advantage for the position.
c) Hands-on experience with genotyping platforms, specifically SNP Open Array technology, is highly desirable.
d) Proven experience in the analysis of genomic data using programming/scripting languages (e.g., R, Python) in a Linux environment.
e) Familiarity with bioinformatic tools and pipelines for NGS data analysis (e.g., GATK, SAMtools, DESeq2) and genotyping data analysis.
f) Knowledge of genomic databases and resources (e.g., dbSNP, gnomAD, TCGA, ENCODE).
g) Experience with high-performance computing clusters or cloud-based genomic analysis is an advantage.
