Context of the position


Established in 1949, SOS Children's Villages International (CVI) is a dynamic, international social development organization working globally to meet the needs and protect the interests and rights of children without parental care and those who are at the risk of losing it.

SOS Children's Villages Association of Zimbabwe is a member of SOS International - a worldwide children's social welfare organisation, providing vulnerable children without homes with a family home and educational opportunities as well as strengthening families to reduce poverty.

Mission of the Position
Under the overall supervision of the Principal, the ECD Teacher is responsible for the holistic development of children in their formative years. The incumbent facilitates social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth by providing a safe, stimulating, and nurturing learning environment that prepares children for formal primary education.

Duties and Responsibilities

Key Performance Areas and Main Responsibilities
• Educational Instruction: Plans, prepares, and delivers age-appropriate lessons and activities that stimulate curiosity and support the foundational milestones of early childhood.
• Child Development Monitoring: Regularly assesses and records the social, emotional, and physical progress of each child, identifying any developmental delays or areas requiring specialized support.
• Classroom Management: Maintains a clean, organized, and safe learning environment that encourages exploration and minimizes hazards.
• Nutrition & Hygiene Supervision: Oversees meal times and personal hygiene routines (such as handwashing and toilet training), integrating health education into daily activities.
• Parent/Caregiver Collaboration: Works closely with mothers and caregivers to provide feedback on child progress and offers guidance on how to support learning and development at home.
• Activity Coordination: Organizes and facilitates play-based learning, creative arts, and physical education programs to promote motor skills and social interaction.
• Safeguarding & Compliance: Ensures the strict implementation of child protection policies and maintains a high standard of supervision at all times to ensure child safety.
• Reporting: Prepares monthly progress reports and maintains up-to-date records of attendance and health information for all children in the ECD program.

Qualifications and Experience

Requirements
Competencies:
• Early Pedagogy: Strong knowledge of early childhood teaching methods, play-based learning, and child psychology.
• Patience & Empathy: Exceptional ability to connect with young children and manage classroom dynamics with a calm and nurturing approach.
• Creative Thinking: Ability to develop engaging teaching aids and activities using available resources.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and local languages to interact with both children and professional staff.
• Observational Skills: Keen eye for detail to monitor child behavior and identify health or developmental concerns early.
• Organizational Skills: Strong ability to plan lessons, manage time effectively, and maintain accurate records.
Qualifications & Experience:
• Education: Minimum of 5 'O' Levels including English and Mathematics.
• Professional Qualification: A Diploma or Degree in Early Childhood Development (ECD) from a recognized institution.
• Registration: Must be a registered teacher (e.g., with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education or relevant local council).
• Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience teaching in an ECD setting, preferably within a community development or NGO environment.
• Certifications: First Aid certification and a clean police clearance (Vetting) are mandatory.
