Job description

The IT Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring the institution's information technology systems, infrastructure and digital resources effectively support the achievement of organizational objectives. This position is responsible for planning, implementing and maintaining secure and reliable IT infrastructure, managing information systems and data and overseeing the delivery of technology projects and services. This role entails developing and enforcing IT policies and procedures, strengthening cybersecurity and data protection measures, coordinating user training and capacity-building initiatives, managing IT resources and vendor relationships and driving technological innovation and digital transformation across the institution.

Duties and Responsibilities

Key responsibilities

Manage and maintain the institution's IT infrastructure, including networks, servers, databases, applications and connectivity, to ensure the availability, reliability and efficiency of information systems.
Assess organizational technology needs and design, implement, and upgrade IT infrastructure solutions that support institutional objectives and operational requirements.
Develop and implement cybersecurity measures, data security protocols, backup systems and disaster recovery plans to safeguard institutional information and digital assets.
Plan, coordinate, and supervise IT projects by defining project scope, objectives, budgets, timelines and risk management strategies to ensure successful project delivery.
Monitor and evaluate the progress of IT projects, manage changes to project scope, and engage stakeholders to ensure projects meet organizational expectations and requirements.
Design and deliver IT training and capacity-building programmes to enhance staff competencies and promote the effective use of information technology across the institution.
Develop, implement, and regularly review IT policies, procedures and standards to ensure compliance with institutional requirements, legal obligations, and technological advancements.
Administer institutional data management systems by establishing data governance frameworks, ensuring data privacy and security compliance and optimizing database performance.

Qualifications and Experience

Requirements

A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Business Administration or a related field.
A Master’s degree is an added advantage.
A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in IT, Computer Science or a related field.
ITIL Foundation Certification.
Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP).
Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate is an added advantage.
Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) is an added advantage.
Key competencies

Strong knowledge of network administration, server management, databases, cloud computing and cybersecurity.
Proficiency in IT governance, risk management and business continuity planning.
Experience with project management methodologies and IT service management frameworks.
Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
