Laboratory Technician (1 Post)
Duties and Responsibilities
Successful candidate will be expected to: Prepare equipment/chemicals for practicals and
research.
Conduct, or assist in conducting laboratory practicals and research.
Train and supervise attachees, laboratory assistants, and technical assistants in the proper
procedures and preparation for student practicals.
Provide technical support for academic members of staff and researchers in the
department of Animal Science and Rangeland Management.
Calibrate and standardize equipment/apparatus to ensure accuracy and efficient
performance.
Demonstrate the use of equipment to students and staff.
Enforce the biosafety requirements as spelt out in the Institutional Biosafety Manual.
Check stocks of consumables and advise on re-order levels.
Source and maintaining laboratory equipment and consumables.
Monitor laboratory work to ensure compliance with set standards.
Carrying out any other duties assigned by Head of Department/Senior Technical Staff.
Qualifications and Experience
Ideally, the successful candidate should possess a Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of
Technology Honours degree in Applied Biology/Biological Sciences/Animal Science or
any other related qualification.
Have at least two years postgraduate relevant experience in a teaching laboratory (tertiary
level), be able to operate the major equipment found in a Biology Laboratory.
A Diploma in Biological Technology will be an added advantage.
