Job Description

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the following posts that have arisen in the University:

FACULTY OF PLANT AND ANIMAL SCIENCES AND TECHNOLOGY Laboratory Technician/ Senior Laboratory Technician (1 Post)

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities
 Operation of laboratory analytical equipment which includes atomic absorption spectrometer, Ultraviolet spectrometer, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, Gas Chromatograph, Kjeldal apparatus and High Performance Liquid Chromatograph;
 Designing laboratory practical schedules, preparation of reagents and standards and demonstration of practicals;
 Installation and calibration of laboratory equipment;
 Collection of samples for researches and practicals;
 Facilitating the procurement of laboratory equipment and consumables;
 Maintaining appropriate levels of inventory and laboratory chemical storages;
 Supervision of Laboratory Assistants and other junior staff;
 Organising student field trips and industrials visits;
 Ensuring general laboratory maintenance; and
 Undertaking any other related duties as assigned by the Head of Department.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must have at least a Diploma in Biological Sciences/Applied Chemistry/ Biochemistry/Food Science or equivalent.
Possession of a Higher National Diploma or a Bachelor of Science degree is an added advantage.
Applicants should have at least 3 years post qualification experience.
