Job Description

Deadline: 3 December 2021 (12noon)

A reputable human-rights oriented organisation which has its offices in Harare is currently looking for a capable and experienced Master of Ceremonies to officiate at a commemorative Movie Night to be held on the 10th of December 2021 in celebration of International Human Rights Day.

Background
International Human Rights Day has been celebrated annually since 1950 after the UN General Assembly passed resolution 423 (V) inviting all States and interested organizations to adopt 10 December of each year as Human Rights Day thereby marking the formal inception of Human Rights Day. Since then, the day has been observed on the 10th of December every year which is the day in 1948 that the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of human rights (UDHR). The UDHR sets out a broad range of fundamental rights and freedoms to which all of us are entitled. It guarantees the rights of every individual everywhere, without distinction based on nationality, place of residence, gender, national or ethnic origin, religion, language, or any other status. Although the Declaration is not a binding document, it has inspired more than 60 human rights instruments which together constitute an international standard of human rights. Today the general consent of all United Nations Member States on the basic Human Rights laid down in the Declaration makes it even stronger and emphasizes the relevance of Human Rights in our daily lives. Within the Zimbabwean Context, CSOs are an important stakeholder and have a crucial role to play in the protection, promotion and fulfillment of human rights obligations as set out under the UN Charter and other international human rights instruments to which Zimbabwe is a signatory. This year’s Human Rights Day runs under the theme: Equality - Reducing inequalities, advancing human rights; a theme which speaks to Article 1 of the UDHR – All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. It is against this backdrop that the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum (the Forum) seeks to commemorate Human Rights Day through an impactful three part documentary that will be launched at Ster Kinekor Movie Theatre in Borrowdale on the 10th of December 2021.
