Job Description

Africa University (AU), a Pan-African Institution, a member of the Association of African Universities, a member of the Commonwealth Association of Universities and a United Methodist Church Related Institution in Zimbabwe, has obtained a grant from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Part of the grant supports the National Tuberculosis (TB) Programme (NTP) to engage an Operational Research Technical Assistant.
OPERATIONAL RESEARCH TECHNICAL ASSISTANT Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill this position on a one year fixed-term contract. Reports to NTP Manager
Background and Job Summary The National TB Program constituted a tuberculosis (TB) Research Technical Woo king Group (TBR TWG) in 2020. The TBR TWG drafted the National TB Research Priorities and successfully hosted the inaugural TB Research Open Day in 2021. To capacitate TB researchers in the country, the TBR TWG plans to we a National TB Operational Research Course for MOHCC staff and implementing partners involved in TB and TB/HIV service delivery. The course will utilize an adaptation of the SORT-IT model. The first instalment of the course is scheduled to run from November 2022-October 2023. On the occasion of its 1st quarterly meeting of 2022, the TBR TWG passed a resolution that an Operational Research Faculty (ORF) be set up to oversee the planning and implementation of the course. A Technical Assistant is to be recruited to provide coordination support and logistical assistance to this Faculty.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities
• The TA shall be responsible for the day-to-day coordination and logistics support towards the planning and implementation of the activities of the Zimbabwe TB OR training course
• The TA shall support the scheduling and conducting of bi-monthly and ad hoc OR Faculty meetings.
• The TA shall compile OR Course progress update reports for submission to the funder as required.
• The TA shall work closely with the Secretariat of the National TB Research Secretariat to ensure smooth coordination of the course.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications
First degree in a health-related field Master's degree in Public Health, or other relevant post-graduate health-related degree would be an added advantage.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledgeable in relevant subject areas including TB, TB/HIV, and TB and comorbidities, epidemiology; data analysis; scientific writing and/or other research areas as guided by the TB Research Priorities document.
Experience in a coordinating role in either academic or public health programming
Duration of work - 1 year
