A research consultancy has been commissioned to document and analyse women’s empowerment in Zimbabwe’s Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining (ASM) sector, with a focus on responsible investment models. To ensure the quality, accuracy, and credibility of the final outputs, an independent peer reviewer is required to critically assess the research methodology, findings, analysis, and knowledge products.
The peer review will strengthen the evidence base, enhance rigour, and ensure alignment with gender-responsive, rights-based, and sector-specific standards.
To provide an objective, expert assessment of the draft research outputs and ensure they meet high standards of technical accuracy, methodological soundness, gender sensitivity, and policy relevance.
The peer reviewer will:
• Assess the quality, coherence, and completeness of the draft research report and related knowledge products.
• Evaluate whether the methodology is appropriate, ethical, and sufficiently robust.
• Verify the accuracy and credibility of findings, interpretations, and conclusions.
• Ensure gender analysis is strong, intersectional, and aligned with best practice.
• Confirm that recommendations are actionable, evidence-based, and relevant to ASM stakeholders.
• Provide constructive feedback to strengthen clarity, structure, and analytical depth.
Scope of Work
The peer reviewer will undertake the following tasks:
Review of Research Methodology
Review of Draft Research Report
Review of Case Studies and Knowledge Products
Provide Written Feedback
Deliverables
Peer reviewed report with detailed assessment of methodology, findings, analysis and recommendations
Duration
The peer review assignment is expected to take 7 days, depending on the volume of documents and responsiveness of the research team.
Required Qualifications
• Advanced degree in Gender Studies, Development Studies, Mining Governance, Social Sciences, or related field.
• At least 7 years’ experience in research, evaluation, or peer review.
• Demonstrated expertise in ASM, gender equality, or responsible investment.
• Strong analytical and writing skills.
• Experience reviewing research for NGOs, donors, or academic institutions.
