Job Description

The Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU) is the largest and comprehensive Open & Distance Electronic Learning (ODeL) University in Zimbabwe that offers lifelong learning in an affordable and flexible manner.

Suitably qualified, experienced and motivated candidates are invited to apply for the following vacant positions that have arisen at the Zimbabwe Open University.

Regional Director (Level 3) (3 Year Contract): (5 Posts)

Bulawayo Regional Campus (1 Post);
Matabeleland North Regional Campus (1 Post);
Midlands Regional Campus (1 Post);
Masvingo Regional Campus (1 Post); and
Manicaland Regional Campus (1 Post).

Duties and Responsibilities

Main Responsibilities

1. Managing and administering the Regional Campus;
2. Managing and supervising activities of the District Centres;
3. Providing leadership, guidance and support to the Regional Campus in such a manner as to ensure the achievement of the objectives set by the University;
4. Developing and establishing effective plans and structures for controlling income and programme implementation, co-ordination, management, monitoring and evaluation;
5. Establishing effective structures for controlling income and expenditure in line with the procedures of the University;
6. Attending all University Committee meetings and all Provincial, Local Boards and other stakeholders' meetings necessary for coordinating the activities for the Regional Campus as well as disseminating information about the Regional Campus;
7. Liaising, on behalf of the University, with donor organizations/institutions to negotiate funding and other assistance needed to successfully implement the programmes at the Campus;
8. Promoting staff and student recruitments;
9. Actively involved in the development and implementation of student recruitment plans at the Regional Campus;
10. Actively involved in the development and implementation of Regional Campus marketing plans;
11. Organising periodic reviews of the Campus’ activities and producing reports on the reviews;
12. Supervising tutorials at the Regional Campus;
13. Running of examinations by arranging venues, furniture and verification of students’ registration;
14. Attending to students' grievances through channels provided for by the ZOU Act.
15. Maintaining Regional records as required by the relevant government Acts and ZOU procedure manual being the accounting officer for the Regional Campus;
16. Undertaking any other duties as may be delegated by the Pro-Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications and Experience

1. An earned PhD from a reputable and accredited Higher Education Institution is a prerequisite;
2. An earned Master’s Degree is a must;
3. Capable of giving sound academic direction to the Regional Campus;
4. The incumbent must demonstrate, knowledge and skills of running an Open Learning Centre.
5. Five (5) years post qualification experience in an academic or management position at an institution of higher learning is required;
