FEWS NET South Regional Field Accountant

USAID's Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET) is a leading global provider of objective, evidence-based food security information and analysis to inform decisions on humanitarian response and other assistance programs. FEWS NET collaborates with international, regional and national partners to provide timely and rigorous early warning and analysis of potential, emerging, and/or evolving food security issues in order to inform decisions and guide response.

Chemonics International Inc., a leading international consulting firm based in Washington, DC, has been contracted by USAID to manage FEWS NET's technical and field activities. Chemonics seeks applications from qualified and experienced professionals to fill one full-time Regional Field Accountant position in Harare, Zimbabwe. The Regional Field Accountant (RFA) will establish and maintain uniformity and accuracy in field accounting procedures across the five FEWS NET South offices in Southern Africa (DRC, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, and the Zimbabwe/Regional office) to ensure that all field accounting practices adhere to USAID and Chemonics regulations and policies. The RFA will advise field offices on financial compliance matters, review and analyze local account submission, and help projects devise approaches for asset and liability management. S/he will also travel to field offices to train appropriate field personnel in the use of accounting software and tracking mechanisms.

Minimum qualifications for the Southern Africa RFA position include:

• Masters or other advanced degree in accounting or related field; a Bachelor's degree and 5+ additional years of accounting experience can be considered in lieu of a Masters;
• Prior knowledge of accounting systems (ABACUS, QuickBooks a plus);
• Experience performing accounting audits or reviews;
• Fluency in written and oral English and French required;
• Knowledge of USAID and its operations preferred.
