Reporting to the HOD, the incumbent’s main role will be that of teaching and conducting solution-oriented research that will lead to innovation, industrialization and commercialization, in line with Education 5.0.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Promote public and outreach events in the integrated discipline of International Relations and Diplomacy, Political Economy; Peace and Security and related fields.
Attend and contribute in College meetings and University-wide Committee meetings
The candidate must be capable of supervising both undergraduate and postgraduate students’ research work and assess students on Work Related Learning.
Please note that the duties and responsibilities of a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor and Professor are grouped into 5 main categories which are: a) Teaching - The incumbent is expected to teach or deliver lectures in accordance with the Department and/ or College guidelines and standards. b) University Service and Community Engagement - The incumbent should participate in all Department, College and University activities such as attending meetings, training workshops, conferences and seminars, among others. c) Research - The incumbent is expected to engage in active research by way of producing quality academic articles – journal papers, book chapters, books, monographs, policy briefs and position papers in his/her area of specialisation, which benefits the Students, the University and the broader Global community. d) Innovations - The incumbent is expected to come out with innovative ways of teaching and learning that fuses technology and Artificial Intelligence in an endeavor to address Africa’s challenges e) Industrialisation - The incumbent should be able to commercialise the innovations by way of developing patterns, copyrights and intellectual property.
Desired Attributes:
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
A PhD in International Relations, Political Science, or a related field.
Master’s Degree in International Relations or Political Science or a related field.
Bachelor’s degree in International Relations or Political Science or a related field.
A tertiary teaching qualification will be an added advantage.
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
At least 5 years of teaching experience at a tertiary institution.
Be conversant with United Nations and regional institutions and instruments in Africa as well as political issues at international level.
Be a person grounded in the gendered dimensions of International Relations and Diplomacy, precisely issues denoting to Gender Inclusion and Global Governance Architecture, Political Economy of Financial Inclusion in Africa and the World; Women and Conflict; Women and Elections, Women and Youth Affairs, Gender and Climate Change as well as Gender and Artificial Intelligence.
Familiarity with the ongoing geo-political convulsions, trade wars and global imperial designs and how these have an impact on Africa
Ability to interrogate the impact of global governance frameworks on the African continent as well as the African Union and all other Regional Economic Communities.
Strong competencies in salient facets of Negotiation and Mediation as well as Migration, Citizenship and Refugee Protection from an Afrocentric disposition
Strong networking abilities to collaborate with local, regional, and international organisations.
Demonstration of ability to contribute to the Colleges’ research profile and an outstanding record of research and publication in the broader fields of Politics, International Relations, Diplomacy and related fields.
International experience working in the politics and diplomacy arena will be considered an advantage.
Ability to interrogate the impact of global governance frameworks on the African continent and states as well as the African Union.
Experience in the practice of diplomacy and international politics, including experience of working with multi-lateral, government or non-governmental organisations.
Competencies in grant writing, fundraising and management of grant aided projects.
Demonstration of knowledge of how gender and policy issues impact Politics and International Relations issues

Knowledge of additional regional languages, such as Swahili, Portuguese, or French will be a further advantage.
