ABOUT
ActionAid Zimbabwe is an International Non-Governmental Organization (INGO) that is locally registered as a Private Voluntary Organisation in Zimbabwe. Since the establishment of its programmes in 2003, the Organisation remains grounded in the communities from which it derives its mandate, with a geographical footprint embedded in its nine Local Rights Programme (LRP) and other project areas. While predominantly rural, AAZ has had development activities in urban areas as well. In line with the ActionAid International partnership policy, AAZ defines itself as an independent organization that takes sides with the people living in poverty and works in partnership with local Community Based
Organisations (CBOs), national and international NGOs, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), various tiers of government, and other like-minded organisations in and outside Zimbabwe.

Duties and Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY
Business Development Officer will work closely with the Women’s Rights and Economic Justice
Program and Projects Manager, to ensure the effective implementation of the economic
empowerment component of the DTV project. The BDO will support young people in Harare South
under the Youth Empowerment Project on market analysis, business development, market linkages,
identification of business interests, She/He will be responsible for oversight of entrepreneurship,
skills development, and business management components of the project. She/He will also work in
liaison with and identified micro-finance institution to identify and nurture viable and bankable
youth businesses and support them mentorship and access to finance. She/He will in liaison with
Project Officer identify potential Micro finance institutions which are youth/women led to work
with. The BDO will also lead market analysis and skills assessment for youths. The BDO will also
popularize the online marketing and business platform that will support the ability of young people
to sell their product virtually to local and international customers. The BDO will lead the process of
identifying business opportunities and platforms for youths
• Developing relations with Micro Finance institutions.
• Carry out market research for the youth-initiated businesses
• Liaising with potential markets for the youths and their enterprises.
• Develop and set up a database of bankable income generating initiatives viable for young people.
• Capacity building in Business Management including digital marketing,
• Mentorship of youth entrepreneurs in business best practices
• Facilitating the participation of youths and their projects in national and international businessexpos.
• Supporting skills development for youths.
• Support in the development of project work plans with partners for a coordinated programming approach
• Manage day-to-day business-related programme activities, working closely with the Project Partners, Finance, Administration, and any other support departments.
• Sets the business learning and skills development agenda for the project and oversees the related process throughout the project life cycle.
• Identify potential business development gaps and provide training in relevant financial literacy, business concepts, cost benefit analysis, cash-flows, budgeting proposal development and credit access for youths.
• Knowledge management – focusing on documentation of best practices and lessons learnt in business development and management to increase uptake of best practices.
• Collaborate with the like-minded financial institutions to support the roll-out of business management courses and pilot the business management online course for youths.
• She/He will spearhead production of quality and timely economic empowerment reports and updates. She/He will periodically assess, inform, and advise on any context changes and possible options to changing context with focus on components likely to affect youth enterprises.
• She/He will develop a sitrep for macro and micro economic monitoring to influence business sustainability.
• Ensure that the project strategies are timely shared with all stakeholders.
• Ensure external participation of stakeholders through sensitization and review meetings, field visits and sharing stakeholder reports and activity plans.
• Ensure reports are produced as per donor guidelines.
• Reviews and monitors and identifies budgetary gaps for considerations.
• Identify and cultivate good working relations with relevant stakeholders in the programming area.
• Identify and facilitate Business Development opportunities and establish links with other relevant private sector, microfinance institutions, government entities and existing initiatives to promote coherence, experience sharing and mutual learning.
• Actively participate and support programmatic coordination and synergy
• Gives technical support to Sponsorship & Fundraising team in sponsorship communications activities.
• Contribute to the development of Concept Papers and Project Proposals linked to the Strategic objectives of the CSP.

Qualifications and Experience

• A university degree in Business Management/Development, Business Law, Commerce, Marketing, Entrepreneurship or Finance related field
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Customer Relationship Management systems
• Proficiency in Website and Social Media applications and analytics
• Certificate in Digital Marketing will be an added advantage
• Post Graduate Qualification will be an added advantage.
• Certificate in Programme Monitoring and Evaluation will be an added advantage COMPETENCIES
