Job Description

The job purpose of the buyer is to purchase goods, materials and services to ensure that the company operational needs are met, taking into account price, quality and delivery and to ensure continuity of supply. The key aspects of the role are sourcing, negotiating and buying of goods, materials and services to meet the Company’s operational requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Ensure continuous supply of required goods and materials and communicate any supply problems which may pose a risk or impact on business operations.
• Receiving of purchase requisitions, preparing and processing of purchase orders in line with final negotiations with selected suppliers and in line with organisational targets and requirements.
• Research and evaluate areas of opportunity and reduce costs where possible.
• Advise on ideas and strategies to improve operational efficiency, add value, aid business performance and work towards a strategy of continuous improvement.
• Negotiate contracts, improved prices and terms of business with suppliers and review opportunities to make business savings utilising negotiation and procurement best practice tools and methods
• Assist in assessing , evaluating suppliers and undertake performance reviews to ensure contract compliance and manage performance improvement activities
• Ensure that a professional and consistent approach is taken in relation to all supplier relationships
• Explore alternate sources for goods and materials. Undertake research on and evaluate existing and new suppliers
• Assess tenders and quotations from potential suppliers
• Analysing consumer buying patterns and predicting future trends
• Regularly reviewing performance indicators, such as sales and discount levels
• Managing plans for stock levels and reacting to changes in demand and logistics.
• liaising with other departments within the organisation to ensure projects are completed
• Liaise with freight forwarders and or customs clearing agents on clearing of shipments.
• Liaise with transport department on collection of orders
• Liaise with accounts department on supplier payments.
• Filing of documents, bill of entries, requisitions, orders etc.
• Ensure a safe and clean working environment
• Any other duties assigned by superiors

Qualifications and Experience

Degree in purchasing and supply / related field
proven experience
