Job Description

Zimbabwe Health Interventions (ZHI) is a not-for-profit human development organisation which is registered as a Trust under the Zimbabwe Deeds Registries Act (Chapter 20:05). ZHI’s mission is to develop and deliver innovative and sustainable high impact integrated health interventions with local communities while working with and strengthening existing institutions. (ZHI) is seeking applications for Gender and Sexual Violence Program Officers for an anticipated UNICEF - SAFE project in Zimbabwe.

The Strengthening and Advocating with Families to Eliminate SGBV (SAFE) project will deliver critical child protection interventions intended on ensuring that children, adolescents, and young people including those with disabilities are better protected from violence, abuse, and exploitation. The SAFE project will strengthen the capacity of SGBV service providers to provide quality GBV services for children, adolescents, and women as well as strengthening reinforcement of positive societal attitudes for the prevention of violence and harmful practices in 4 districts namely Tredgold, Bulilima, Mangwe and Beitbridge. Appointment is contingent upon successful award of the project.

Basic Function
The Gender and Sexual Violence Program Officer(GSVPO) is a gender equality and social inclusion specialist who will implement Gender and Sexual Violence, community visioning, norms change at district level. The GSVPO will employ the ecological model to build and sustain Sexual and Gender based violence (SGBV) prevention and response systems that serve children, adolescents, and women, including those with disabilities. ZHI will adopt and apply a developmental approach to preventing sexual and gender-based violence amongst children and adolescents, including those with disabilities, aged 9 to 24. The GSVPO will engage children, adolescents and women including those with disability to empower them to lead interventions targeted at ending Sexual and Gender-based Violence directed at them. The GSVPO will collaborate with strategic government departments including health, education, law enforcement, social development and justice, other UNICEF partners, other programs including DREAMS to provide universal access to quality, inclusive Sexual and Gender-based Violence prevention and response services to children, adolescents, and women. The GSVPO will collaborate with gatekeepers, traditional, political and religious leaders to scaling up efforts to targeted at prevention SGBV and provide universal access to address socio-cultural, religious and legal barriers that increase vulnerability of SGBV, HIV and impede access to services. The GSVPO will promote, organize, manage, and coordinate Gender and Sexual Violence interventions. She/he will contribute to efforts targeted at preventing and managing sexual violence, reviewing, reinforcement, improvement, and expansion of the Gender Based Violence.

Duties and Responsibilities

Job Description
In accordance with ZHI and UNICEF policy and procedures, the incumbent will be responsible for the following: Assume primary responsibility for daily project management and implementation and ensure compliance with project donor agreements and project proposals, particularly expected results, outputs, and activities in accordance with work plan, targets and timeframes and notify the supervisor immediately as issues arise; Support the collection and analysis of sex- and age- disaggregated data (quantitative, qualitative, and anecdotal) as well as streamlining the needs assessment, collection and analysis so that it can be more effective in meeting beneficiary needs. Take the lead in project planning and oversee implementation and budget expenditures to ensure effective use of resources against planned activities and expected outputs; Ensure adequate project monitoring systems and evaluation procedures are in place applying appropriate tools in order to collect and update all progress indicators for the project; Compile and prepare quality monthly and periodic project progress reports, as well as the final report, and feed in other information as required by donors; Collect and promote good practices and lessons learned, contributing to a collection of replicable good practices for gender equality programming: Document the lessons learned from the different interventions and on developing best practices and knowledge management capacity; Build strategic alliances with other key actors internally and externally to advocate for addressing of Sexual and Gender based Violence; Ensure the participation of the different stakeholders, including staff, parents, students, and community leaders and members; Developing awareness raising and staff training programs to raise awareness on Gender and sexual violence; Participate in the development and production of communication materials (leaflets, posters, brochures) to raise awareness on gender equality, Sexual and GBV; Conducting training for school counselors, social workers, community leadership, community cadres supporting program implementation to build their capacity and activate their role in Gender equality, sexual and GBV case management; Act as the focal point for all Gender related issues; Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Must be able to speak Ndebele.

Qualifications And Experience
Master’s Degree or a Bachelors Degree in Psychology, Social Sciences, Adult Education, Development Studies, gender and/or women’s studies or any other related field; At least three years previous work experience relevant to the function; Excellent inter-personal skills, movement building and networking; Understanding of GBV and gender relations at community level setting, community visioning, community norms change; Excellent presentation skills; Must have own laptop.
