HATCHERY MANAGER
Location: Bulawayo, Zimbabwe
Employment Type: Full-Time
Hamara Group is seeking a highly experienced, results-driven Hatchery Manager to lead hatchery operations and ensure consistent delivery of high-quality day-old chicks through strong operational controls, biosecurity, vaccination accuracy and continuous improvement.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Manage the complete hatchery operation from fertile egg receiving and setting through incubation, hatching, chick processing and dispatch.
* Maximise Hatch of Fertile % and Hatch of Total Eggs Set %.
* Monitor and improve chick quality scores.
* Monitor and reduce first-week customer mortality.
* Maintain strict biosecurity compliance across all hatchery operations.
* Ensure high vaccination accuracy, including correct vaccine handling, storage, dosage and administration.
* Monitor and reduce the customer complaint rate.
* Conduct hatch and egg breakout analysis and implement corrective actions.
* Monitor incubation parameters including temperature, humidity and ventilation.
* Ensure accurate production planning, egg and chick reconciliation and traceability.
* Manage preventive maintenance of hatchery equipment.
* Lead, train and develop the hatchery team.
* Prepare daily, weekly and monthly hatchery performance reports.
* Drive continuous improvement in hatchability, chick quality, productivity and operational efficiency.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
* Degree or Diploma in Animal Science, Poultry Science, Agriculture, Veterinary Science/Animal Health, Livestock Production or a related field.
* Minimum of 5 years’ relevant working experience in commercial poultry and/or hatchery operations.
* Demonstrated experience managing commercial hatchery operations is highly desirable.
* Strong technical knowledge of incubation, hatchability, chick quality and embryonic development.
* Sound knowledge of poultry vaccination, disease prevention and biosecurity.
* Proven experience in team leadership and performance management.
* Strong analytical, reporting and problem-solving skills.
* Computer literacy, particularly Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.
* A clean and valid driver’s licence is an advantage.
