Job Description
Background
The ZAMI 2026 Convening Committee invites companies, development partners, financial
institutions, professional bodies, foundations, research institutions and other organisations to
sponsor one of the thematic panel sessions at the Zimbabwe Alternative Mining Indaba 2026.
This call is deliberately focused on panel sponsorship. A selected sponsor will support the full
delivery of one agreed thematic session, including the participation of relevant speakers. The
intention is to bring additional resources, knowledge and experience into ZAMI while
protecting the independence, credibility and community-centred character of the platform.
Sponsors may propose speakers and contribute ideas on the session format. However, the
approved theme, scope and key questions will remain unchanged. Final responsibility for the
session design, speaker balance, moderation and programme rests with the ZAMI 2026
Convening Committee.
ZAMI 2026 will be held in Bulawayo from 14 to 18 September 2026 under the theme
“Powering Tomorrow: Reimagining Mining, Energy, Agriculture and Community Development
in Zimbabwe. A Focus on Critical Minerals, Value Addition and Inclusive Development.” It
builds on Ward, District and Provincial Alternative Mining Indabas that have enabled
communities to bring local experiences into national policy dialogue. The programme will
bring together mining-affected communities, women, young people, persons with disabilities,
artisanal and small-scale miners, traditional leaders, government, Parliament, mining
companies, investors, civil society, academia and the media. The intention is not only to discuss problems, but to identify workable solutions and secure clear commitments that can be followed after the event
Duties and Responsibilities
Panel Sponsorship Package
Sponsorship Item Details
Financial contribution US$7,500 for one thematic panel.
Panel duration Approximately 75–90 minutes, subject to the final ZAMI programme.
Speaker participation The sponsorship supports:
• The participation of 2 people from the sponsoring organization covering accommodation – Bed and Breakfast for 4 nights and conference costs.
• A balanced panel of 4 panelists, including travel, accommodation or related costs where required. The sponsor may recommend speakers, but all speakers must be approved by the Convening Committee.
• Conference participation for a minimum of 50 participants.
• Logo visibility in program materials and digital platforms.
Session preparation Joint planning with the ZAMI technical team, development of guiding questions, speaker briefing and moderation arrangements.
Session delivery Venue, audio-visual support, timekeeping and participant engagement.
Documentation Rapporteur support and inclusion of the panel recommendations in the ZAMI report, communique and action tracker.
Visibility Recognition as the official sponsor of the selected thematic panel in agreed event and communication materials.
Important: The US$7,500 contribution is a panel sponsorship fee, not a payment for editorial control. Any
exceptional costs, such as international travel or additional community delegates beyond the standard panel
allocation, will be discussed and agreed separately before confirmation.
1. Joint Applications and Partnerships
Organisations are encouraged to partner and submit a joint expression of interest where
collaboration will strengthen the panel, bring complementary expertise, support a broader and
more balanced mix of speakers, or make it easier to meet the sponsorship contribution. Joint
applicants should identify one lead organisation to serve as the contracting party and main focal
point for the Convening Committee.
2. Information-Sharing Session
An online information-sharing session will be held on Tuesday, 4 August 2026 at 10:00 CAT.
The session will provide an opportunity for interested organisations to ask questions and
receive clarification on the thematic areas, sponsorship package, application process, speaker
nomination arrangements and the safeguards that protect the agreed focus of each panel.
Organisations wishing to attend should register through [registration link]. Connection details
will be shared with registered participants.
3. What the Panel Sponsor May Contribute
The sponsor will work with the ZAMI Convening Committee to strengthen the quality and
reach of the selected session. A sponsor may:
• Recommend technically credible speakers, practitioners or community representatives for
consideration;
• Share relevant research, case studies, data or practical experience that can enrich the
discussion;
• Suggest discussion questions that fall within the approved thematic scope;
• Support speaker travel, accommodation and participation costs through the sponsorship
contribution;
• Participate in a planning meeting and speaker briefing before the Indaba.
4. Protecting the Integrity of the Panel
ZAMI welcomes partnership, but sponsorship must not narrow the conversation or turn a
public-interest panel into a promotional platform. For this reason:
• The sponsor may not rename, replace or materially alter the approved thematic focus;
• Speaker selection must reflect a fair mix of perspectives, including community voices
where relevant;
• The moderator will be agreed with, or appointed by, the Convening Committee;
• Final questions, speaker order and session framing will be approved by the ZAMI technical
team; and
• All sponsors and speakers must respect ZAMI principles on inclusion, respectful dialogue,
non-discrimination and evidence-based engagement.
5. Thematic Panels Available for Sponsorship
Applicants should identify one preferred thematic area. Where more than one organisation
expresses interest in the same panel, the Convening Committee may select one lead sponsor or,
with the applicants’ agreement, propose a co-sponsorship arrangement.
i. Powering Mines: Energy Access, Efficiency and Resilience
Exploring power shortages, renewable energy, self-generation, energy efficiency, wheeling
arrangements, community energy benefits and the contribution of mining to national energy
security.
ii. From Ore to Industry: Value Addition and Beneficiation
Examining how Zimbabwe can move from exporting raw or semi-processed minerals to
building domestic industrial capacity, including lithium processing, platinum and chrome value
chains, gemstones, gold and enabling infrastructure.
iii. Mining, Agriculture and Rural Transformation
Exploring the relationship between mining, agricultural livelihoods and rural development,
including fertiliser production, food security, land and water competition, environmental
protection and opportunities for integrated local economies.
iv. Critical Minerals, Fiscal Justice and Public Debt
Considering mining taxation, royalties, export taxes, state participation, mineral-backed
financing, public debt, revenue transparency, illicit financial flows and parliamentary
oversight.
v. Community Voices, Gender Equity and Benefit-Sharing
Providing space for mining-affected communities to set out their priorities on benefit-sharing,
local procurement, employment, women and youth participation, persons with disabilities,
compensation, relocation, grievance mechanisms and community development agreements.
vi. Critical Minerals, Climate and the Just Energy Transition
Examining how Zimbabwe’s critical minerals can support the global energy transition while
protecting communities, water, land, biodiversity and the interests of future generations.
vii. ESG and Responsible Sourcing
Focusing on ESG standards, responsible sourcing, due diligence, transparency, corporate
reporting, stakeholder engagement, grievance mechanisms and trust between companies,
communities and investors.
viii. Enhancing Access to Remedy for Mining Communities
Exploring conflict prevention, land and resettlement disputes, relations between large-scale
mining and artisanal miners, human rights protection, community development agreements,
meaningful consultation and practical pathways to remedy.
6. Recognition for the Selected Sponsor
• Subject to the final sponsorship agreement and ZAMI branding guidelines, the selected
organisation will receive:
• Recognition as “Thematic Panel Sponsor” in the official programme;
• Sponsor name and logo on the selected panel’s holding slide;
• Acknowledgement by the moderator at the beginning and close of the session;
• Recognition in selected ZAMI social media and post-event communication;
• Inclusion in the ZAMI 2026 report and partner acknowledgements; and
• Two complimentary delegate registrations.
Qualifications and Experience
Who May Apply
Expressions of interest are welcome from organisations whose work, mandate or experience is
relevant to the selected thematic panel, including:
• Mining and energy companies;
• Financial institutions, insurers and investors;
• Development partners and philanthropic foundations;
• Business associations and professional bodies;
• Universities, research and policy institutions;
• Civil society, faith-based and regional organisations; and
• Technical or advisory organisations working in mining, energy, agriculture, ESG, fiscal
governance, climate or community development.
8. What to Submit
Interested organisations should submit a brief expression of interest of no more than three pages
containing:
• Name and short profile of the organisation;
• The thematic panel the organisation wishes to sponsor;
• A brief explanation of why the organisation is interested in that theme;
• Written confirmation of the US$7,500 sponsorship contribution;
• Any proposed speakers, with a short note on their expertise and relevance;
• Any research, case studies or practical experience the organisation would bring to the
session; and
• Name, email address and telephone number of the focal person.
9. Assessment and Confirmation
Expressions of interest will be reviewed by the ZAMI 2026 Convening Committee. Selection
will consider:
• Relevance and credibility in relation to the selected theme;
• Willingness to protect the agreed focus and independence of the panel;
• Commitment to balanced representation and meaningful community participation;
• Suitability and diversity of any proposed speakers;
• Confirmation of the financial contribution; and
• Alignment with the objectives and values of ZAMI 2026
